Week 3: Fasting Day #1

Tuesday 4th September 2012

I find that I'm eating less between fasting days now. I'm not snacking so much (although I did eat three mini pork pies after dinner last night, norty!), and smaller portions seem to fill me up where they didn't before. Having said that, the portion of pasta and salad I had tonight was a bit too small, hence the pies later on!

Breakfast around 11:00am:
Scrambled eggs (two eggs) with a knob of butter - 300 calories.

Snack around 2:30pm:
100g banana - 95 calories.

STARVING! Another snack at 5:00pm:
100g banana - 95 calories (just as well I have an emergency food stash in my drawer at work, shhhh!).

Dinner as soon as I get in, around 6:30pm:
Tin of drained yellow fin tuna - 128 calories.
Whole bag of rocket - 6 calories.
Olive oil and fresh lemon juice dressing - 40 calories.

Total calorie intake today - 664

Most difficult day so far. Still feeling good though, so I thought I'd walk down to the Doctors' surgery and get weighed!

Hmmm. No real weight loss, and a slight increase in BMI, due no doubt to the fact that I'm 2cm shorter than last time I weighed myself!

There's obviously some variation in the measurement system too.

  1. How are you coping with the feeling of hunger? Do you have any strategy, like guzzling water? Great to hear about the increase in energy, and in the lessening of appetite (or increase in being sated?) on none-fast days. Does the reading you've done on this mention anything about the weight loss coming at a certain point, usually? Fascinating stuff. And that's made me hungry!

  2. The hunger pangs seem to come and go fairly randomly. I am drinking more water during the day at work than I used to, especially so on fasting days.
I don't know how the weight loss works. I haven't read anything such as it kicking in at a certain point; Dr Mosley says he lost a stone in five weeks and I just assumed it was a steady and regular amount each week.
I've not weighed myself regularly before, so I don't understand my own body's rhythm and consequent variation in weight. It will be very interesting finding out what's happening over the coming weeks, but I kind of wish I'd weighed myself regularly for a few weeks before I started fasting.
You're right, it is fascinating stuff, but I'm actually not hungry!
I've been wondering if the lack of cereals/grains on fasting days is stopping me from craving carbs? Perhaps contributing to the reduced appetite generally.

  3. I should have mentioned, drinking water seems to help quell the hunger pangs.
